Watching Scuola senza fine, a movie by Adriana Monti (1983) / Programmed by Catalina Ravessoud

Quand on m'a proposé de participer au projet de Cinenova, ma première préoccupation a été de choisir un film parmi des centaines d'autres. Même si d'autres production méritait tout autant d'être montrées, mon choix s'est porté sur le film de Monti car il remet en question le statut de l'observant et l'observé.

Scuola senza fine est le fruit d’une collaboration d’Adriana Monti et de ces “étudiantes”, qui dura de 1979 à 1981. C’est toutes ensemble qu’elles donnent vie à cette oeuvre; les élèves prennent doublement part au film, dont elles sont également les co-auteures. Insuflant leur créativité propre dans la production, elles brouillent les frontières entre l’observant et l’observée, le récit et l’autobiographie, l’écriture et l’action. La collectivité est à la fois le sujet et l’objet de ce travail, un discours polyphonique sur l’émancipation, la transmission, l’entraide.

When I was asked to participate in the Cinenova project, my first concern was to choose a film among hundreds of others. Although other productions were equally worthy of being shown, I chose Monti's film because it questions the status of the observer and the observed.

Scuola senza fine is the fruit of a collaboration between Adriana Monti and these "students", which lasted from 1979 to 1981. They all give life to this work together; the students take part in the film in two ways, as they are also the co-authors. Instilling their own creativity into the production, they blur the boundaries between the observer and the observed, narrative and autobiography, writing and action. The community is both the subject and the object of this work, a polyphonic discourse on emancipation, transmission, mutual aid.
